Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: August 31, 2026
Vowseal uses the information needed to authenticate accounts, run shared Vows, maintain relationship and ledger records, protect the service and provide features you choose. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
This summary helps explain the document, but the sections below are the operative terms.Scope and operator
This Privacy Policy applies to the Vowseal mobile application, website and related private-beta services (collectively, the “Service”). Vowseal is currently operated as an independent, invitation-only beta product (“Vowseal,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
The Service is intended for people who are at least 18 years old. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Information we collect
- Account and identity data: email address, authentication-provider identifiers from Privy, Apple or Google, username, display name, profile image and biography.
- Relationship and Vow data: friend and relationship records, titles, participants, visibility choices, deadlines, progress, confirmations, comments, challenges, adjudication records and other activity you submit.
- Evidence and media: signatures, selected photographs, evidence descriptions, file metadata, integrity hashes and visibility settings. We process only media you choose to submit or save through a feature.
- Ledger and reputation data: Promise Points entries, locks, rewards, losses, Personal Token activity, LoveLetter usage, purchase history for in-product items and reputation events. Beta units have no cash value.
- Life-archive data: annual plans, digital-legacy drafts, trusted contacts, conditional instructions and memorial messages that you choose to create. These features are not legal wills and do not transfer legal ownership.
- Device and operational data: installation and session identifiers, app version, platform, notification preferences, security events, crash or diagnostic information, moderation reports and support communications.
- Contacts and device permissions: if you grant access, the app may let you select a device contact. Unselected address-book entries are not intended to be uploaded; details you deliberately add to a Vowseal record may be stored with that record.
Face ID or Touch ID matching is performed by Apple on your device. Vowseal receives the success or failure result and does not receive or store your biometric template.
How we use information
We use information to provide and synchronize the Service; authenticate users and devices; operate Vows, reminders, evidence, relationship features and ledgers; apply visibility settings; prevent abuse and fraud; investigate reports and disputes; provide support; maintain auditability; improve reliability; and comply with law.
Where consent is the appropriate basis—such as access to contacts, photos, notifications or device sensors—you may deny or later revoke the relevant permission in iOS Settings, although the related feature may stop working.
How information is disclosed
We may disclose information:
- to participants, friends or the public according to the visibility setting you choose, including “Tell the World” Vows;
- to vendors that provide authentication, cloud hosting, databases, notifications, security, analytics or customer support, subject to contractual and security controls;
- when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, enforce our terms or defend legal claims; and
- in connection with a financing, reorganization, acquisition or transfer of the Service, with appropriate notice and protections.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Vowseal does not currently run third-party advertising.
Your choices and privacy rights
The in-app Privacy & Account Controls let you review devices, export account data, request correction through profile controls, submit an appeal and request account deletion. You can also control Vow visibility, proof-of-life status, reminders and device permissions.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of personal information; to limit certain uses of sensitive information; and to opt out of sale or targeted sharing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights. Because Vowseal does not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is currently no sale or advertising opt-out needed.
Submit a request through in-app Privacy & Account Controls. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and legal exceptions may apply.
Retention and deletion
We retain information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, maintain security and auditable ledger integrity, and comply with law. Different records may have different retention periods.
An in-app deletion request currently includes a seven-day cooling-off period. After that period, we plan to deactivate sessions and delete or de-identify account data, subject to records we must or reasonably need to retain for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, ledger integrity or legal compliance. Residual copies may remain temporarily in protected backups until their normal rotation completes.
Security and international processing
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed for the sensitivity of the data, including access controls, authenticated sessions, encryption in transit, device-level protection and audit records. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Vowseal and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have different data-protection laws from your home jurisdiction.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the beta evolves. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date and, when appropriate, an in-app notice or renewed consent.
Privacy questions and rights requests may be submitted through Privacy & Account Controls in the app. Before public launch, Vowseal will also publish and monitor a dedicated privacy contact address at the vowseal.com domain.
